According to an al-Qaeda propaganda magazine, Osama bin Laden’s 9/11 attack plot was inspired by the EgyptAir Flight 990. Due to mechanical failures, the flight crashed into the Atlantic Ocean in 1999 killing all 217 passengers, half of whom were American.
